Zenobia Hikes Memorial Award
The Zenobia Hikes Memorial Award is sponsored by the NASPA Center for Scholarship, Research, and Professional Development for Women (Center for Women) to recognize a NASPA member who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education and to student affairs. The recipient will receive a plaque presented at the Center for Women Reception at the NASPA Annual Conference.
This award recognizes NASPA members with at least ten years of full time work in Student Affairs who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education and to student affairs, through mentoring and professional development activities. These women also have a strong evidence of contributions to the development of students as engaged citizens and ethical leaders and a record of community service to the profession and locally. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply or be nominated.
Applications are due December 7, 2018 and applicants will be notified January 7, 2019 of their status.
Nominations will include:
- Nomination/Application process - NASPA members may self-nominate or be nominated.
- Nominee's resume
- Two letters of recommendation that address the award criteria from a supervisor, colleague or peer in the field or from a student
- At least ten years of full time work in Student Affairs who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education and to student affairs, through mentoring and professional development activities;
Have a strong evidence of contributions to the development of students as engaged citizens and ethical leaders and a record of community service to the profession and locally
- Examples include but not limited to: Involvement as student organization/program advisor, active member on governing board(s), professional committees, etc.
- Women and individuals with minoritized identities are particularly encouraged to apply or be nominated
Guidance/Structure for Nominations

Step 1: Information Gathering
- Review award summary and criteria
- Gather information from nominee (resume, any additional supporting documents for letters of recommendation)
Step 2: Submit Nomination
- Submit materials for nomination: resume and 2 letters of recommendation
- You can follow the template for the letter of recommendation here: Sample Nomination Template
- Start early! Make sure to provide nominee ample time to provide you with an updated resume. This will also allow you sufficient time to develop a strong letter of recommendation.
- Although we have provided a template as a guideline, please feel free to use the format that you are most comfortable with. The purpose is to highlight your nominee in the best possible light!
- Nominees should consider requesting letters from those who can not only address the criteria but also peak to their strengths as a leader and advocate for women in student affairs.
