Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
A first-generation college student, Dr. Joe Oravecz (he, his, him) has over twenty-five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education, and currently serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. A public comprehensive institution with an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students, Joe provides leadership for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management that is comprised of undergraduate admissions, transfer student center, financial aid, dean of students office, residence life and housing, campus center, student involvement & leadership, student conduct/community standards, orientation, parent & family programs, wellness center (student health services, counseling services, wellness outreach, violence prevention initiatives), and athletics & recreation (NCAA Division III - 22 varsity sports).
A professional in the field of higher education and student affairs since 1992, Dr. Oravecz has served on executive leadership teams within student affairs organizations at private and public institutions, including Cabinet level chief student affairs officers positions, and has extensive experience leading and managing in higher education, including strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation. Prior to his current role, Joe has served in SSAO (VP & AVP) roles at University of Bridgeport (CT), Bowling Green State University, University of Nebraska Kearney, and Montana State University Billings. In addition, while in Billings, MT he served as a publicly elected Trustee with the City of Billings School Board of Education with an enrollment that exceeded 16,500 students in 32 schools, and has expertise with assessing learning outcomes, fiduciary accountability, collaborating and partnering with community agencies, and supporting the success of at-risk students.
His passions include advocating for at-risk youth, specifically those with special needs, as well as articulating the importance of everyone learning more about and having a better understanding of trauma informed care.
